Bambu is a musical force of nature. Fans call their shows unforgettable, even magical. Their loose collective of soul-driven melodies, conscious lyrics, world-class dance rhythms including Reggae, South American and African, plus a dose of psychedelia, is a must-dance event. At their peak of popularity in the 1990s, half the members moved away, but a reunion show in 2005 was so enjoyable the band continues to perform together every year or two. Vocalist Barbara Morillo was a nationally successful recording artist in the 1960s and a close friend of Jimi Hendrix. Vocalist Jason Shoucair sings and raps from his roots in Jamaica. Derby is from Argentina, singing and playing authentic latin hand percussion. Robert Almaraz learned the drums as a youth in Venezuela. Guitarist Jon Estrin and bassist George Foster add their american psychedelic backgrounds. Bambu is a melodic, compelling dance-across-the-universe event.
